Young Athletes Play Day

The Linn-Mar Student Support Services Department worked with Linn Grove Elementary and Special Olympics Iowa to host a Young Athletes Play Day event.  

Young Athletes is a program for ages 2 to 7 that introduces students to basic sport skills. It helps increase children’s strength and coordination while learning group play and cooperation.

This is a unified event, meaning students with and without disabilities participate alongside one another throughout the event.

With the help of our amazing community and high school volunteers, students from our Little Lions Preschool Program and selected students from Linn Grove Elementary worked together to rotate through 11 interactive stations.

These stations included ribbon dancing, bowling, an obstacle course, soccer, long jump, batting, bean bag toss, and basketball.

At the end of the event, students were given medals and a sack lunch, courtesy of Special Olympics Iowa. 

The Student Services Department is hopeful that more students will be able to participate in the future.
