Students Graduate from Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Five Linn-Mar High School students are graduating from the Pre-Apprenticeship program through the University of Iowa Labor Center.
The students attended almost 80 hours of class time to meet the “graduation” requirements of the program including 4 hours on Tuesday and Thursday nights and all day Saturdays for 5 weeks. All students get a certificate to recognize that they have completed NABTU’s MC3 program. This includes OSHA, First Aid, & CPR certifications.
The mission of The University of Iowa Labor Center is to provide educational programs and research support to Iowa’s working people and their organizations acting as a bridge between the University and Iowa’s labor community.
Blake and Zach liked the Laborers program when they visited on a tour, and have been accepted into the Laborers apprenticeship program.
They are making arrangements to start their apprenticeships as soon as they graduate. If they wish, they can start working the Monday after graduation.
Following a three-year apprenticeship, they will earn approximately $29 per hour with health insurance and pension benefits.
Congratulations and good luck to them!
