Students Do Well at Brain Bee
Six members of the Linn-Mar HOSA Future Health Professionals competed in the University of Iowa Brain Bee.
Diya Patel, Amy Miller, Melissa Wang, and Alesha Kharel advanced into the final round of the top 7 competitors. Diya placed second, winning a $200 prize. She qualified to represent the state of Iowa at the national brain bee, April 21st through the 23rd at the University of California, Irvine. In addition to the prize money, Diya receives one thousand dollars for travel expenses.
Prior to the competition, the students were given the opportunity to tour the University of Iowa Neuroscience Department. They were also able to interact with Ph.D. students and faculty through lab tours, presentations, and general question-and-answer sessions.
The Linn-Mar HOSA club members prepared for the competition through weekly study sessions and by hosting guest speakers on various neuroscience topics after school earlier this year.
