Six LMHS Seniors Named 2017 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
The Linn-Mar Community School District is very proud to recognize and congratulate six high school seniors for being named semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The semifinalists are:
- Abbey Fitzsimmons
- Tyler Hungate
- Daniel Low
- Morgan Lu
- Matt Peng
- Seth White
“We are very happy for Abbey, Tyler, Daniel, Morgan, Matt and Seth on being named National Merit Semifinalists,” said Principal Jeff Gustason. “We are also pleased for their families, who play a major role in the achievement of these National Merit Competition honorees.”
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
