Seven LMHS Seniors Named 2019 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
The Linn-Mar Community School District is very proud to recognize and congratulate seven high school seniors for being named semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The semifinalists are:
- Gloria Chang
- Akash Gururaja
- Benjamin Hinz
- Samyutka Karthik
- Noah Keller
- Ashley Kendrick
- Delanie Williams
“We are very happy for Gloria, Akash, Benjamin, Samyutka, Noah, Ashley, and Delanie on being named National Merit Semifinalists,” said Principal Jeff Gustason. “We are also pleased for their families, who play a major role in the achievement of these National Merit Competition honorees.”
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Congratulations to all seven seniors on your achievement and good luck in 2019!
