School Day Access to Bowman Woods Elementary Limited This Week
The City of Cedar Rapids is removing ash trees alongside Boyson Road this week, which requires a full road closure. Closures will be scheduled to allow drop-off and pick-up operations at Bowman Woods Elementary to continue.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (April 23 – 25) Boyson Road between Brentwood Drive and Kent Drive is scheduled to be fully closed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., to allow tree removals to safely take place.
Bowman Woods Elementary can still be accessed via the entrance off Chatham Rd.
The ash removals are part of the City’s Emerald Ash Borer management plan and are being removed proactively to limit the spread of the disease.
The Bowman Woods neighborhood has received a Branching Out grant to replace the trees along the right-of-way with other tree species.
The new trees will be planted along Bowman Lane the weekend of April 28.
The city says that our staff and parents can access the school if needed, but you will need to let them know you are going to Bowman Woods School only.
City leaders are hoping the work wraps up by Tuesday, but that will be determined by each day’s progress.
