School Board Welcomes Newest Member

Sofia Mehaffey was sworn in as a member of the Linn-Mar Board of Education Wednesday, October 24.

The oath of office was administered by Board Secretary J.T.Anderson in the boardroom of Learning Resource Center.

Mehaffey is the community health and nutrition director at Horizons, A Family Service Alliance. The organization’s mission is to provide life-changing services to underserved populations. She also has two students who attend Linn-Mar High School. 

According to a recent Corridor Business Journal article, Mehaffey said, “We need to find purpose and meaning in our work, no matter the field.”

She also stated that she is supportive of those that “encourage and empower individuals and families with barriers to improve their circumstances and overcome diversity.”

Mehaffey was appointed to the Board of Education Monday, October 22 during the regular meeting and will remain on the school board through the completion of the term in November 2019. She is expected to attend the next board meeting Monday, November 5.
