Oak Ridge’s Brett Dupree Honored With Excellence in Teaching Award
The Philip Sehmann Excellence in Teaching Award (High School level, Middle School level, Elementary level) is given in memory of Mr. Sehmann who had a highly distinguished career as Director of Bands at Crestwood Community Schools. This award is presented to those individuals who meet the criteria of excellence, dedication, and commitment to the value of instrumental music education in our schools.
Brett Dupree is the Director of Bands at Oak Ridge Middle School. In addition to lessons, he teaches the 7th Grade Concert Band, 8th Grade Concert Band, and 8th Grade Jazz Band. Under his supervision, the bands at Oak Ridge consistently receive superior ratings at the festivals they attend. A native of Cedar Rapids and a graduate of Linn-Mar High School, Dupree is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music.
Prior to teaching at Oak Ridge Middle School he served as Director of Bands at Farrer Middle School in Provo, Utah, Director of Bands at Auburn High School in Auburn, Washington, and Associate Director of Bands at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids.
Dupree will receive this award December 2nd at a luncheon hosted by NEIBA in Oelwein, Iowa.
