5th and 6th Graders Selected to Young Musicians Honor Band
On Saturday, February 17th, nine 5th grade Band students, and five Oak Ridge Middle School 6th grade Band students will participate in the 2018 Young Musicians Honor Band hosted by Prairie Creek Intermediate School. Lee Rabe, will direct the 95 member 1st year band, and Jane Triplett, will direct the 100 member 2nd year Band. Both guest conductors teach in the Iowa City Community School District. Students from over 50 Iowa schools will participate. After an all-day rehearsal, the students will hold a concert in the Prairie Point Middle School gym at 4:30 PM.
5th Grade students selected are: Brynlie Perry – Flute (Wilkins), Kyle Earnest – alto sax (Echo Hill); Joseph Schafer – alto sax (Bowman Woods); Luke Sowers – cornet (Indian Creek); Austin Schornhorst – trombone (Linn Grove); Grant Dupree – baritone (Novak); Dale Nuss – tuba (Novak); Maverick Stapley – tuba (Echo Hill); and Sujan Shadrak – percussion (Echo Hill).
6th Grade students selected are: Sophia Askelson – flute; Evan Shanley – clarinet; Maddox Elliott – trombone; Gavin Gates – trombone; and Kyle Langston – percussion.
Kevin Makinster and Amy Sams teach the 5th graders, and Stephanie Nuss and Brett Dupree teach the 6th graders.
