Oak Ridge FIRST LEGO Teams Advance to State
All three FIRST LEGO League teams from Oak Ridge Middle School advanced to state!
This season, the teams designed a project on the theme “Animal Allies”, focusing on ways to improve animal/human interactions.
The Oak Ridge LEGO Blasters
Designed a Monarch Mat. A rollout butterfly garden that includes milkweed and plants specifically chosen because monarch butterflies feed on them.
The Oak Ridge LEGO Masters
Created Knows-Nose. A database of dog nose prints to help identify animals lost in natural disasters such as floods.
The Oak Ridge LEGO Disasters
Engineered a Mineral Oil Fogger. To decrease deadly mites on honeybees.
Each team competed against 15 other teams who designed and programmed robots, presented their project, and were judged on gracious professionalism and team spirit.
The three teams now compete at Iowa State University in Ames the weekend of January 14th and 15th. A total of 120 teams are scheduled to compete. One team will be chosen to attend the world championship in St. Louis later in 2017.
FIRST LEGO League challenges more than 250,000 students aged 9 to 14 on 28,000 teams in 80 countries, to think like scientists and engineers.
