Middle School MathCounts Teams Advance to State
Oak Ridge took home first and Excelsior placed second in the MathCounts regional team competition from among eight schools from the Cedar Rapids metro-area.
The MathCounts regional competition is comprised of a sprint round, target round, team round, and countdown round. The team round took the top four mathletes from each school. They then worked together against opponent schools.
Team members for the Oak Ridge team competition were: Sutra Iyer, Prem Kulkarni, Adam Kmetz and Tejas Gururaja
Team members for the Excelsior team competition were: Joey Banowetz, Ethan Crawford, Luke Mueggenberg and Morgan Kremer
The sprint and target rounds tested each student’s individual math skills. The top 10 scoring students from these rounds competed in the countdown round.
Linn-Mar students earned 7 of the top 10 spots following the countdown round.*

6th: Adam Kmetz (Oak Ridge)
7th: Sujan Shadrak (Oak Ridge)
9th: Preston Krieger (Oak Ridge)
10th: Ethan Crawford (Excelsior)

The top 10 individual students, who were not on a team, will advance to state. The state event takes place Friday, March 29th in Ankeny.
