Mental Health Matters Group Raises Awareness with Suicide Prevention Event
The Mental Health Matters (MHM) group at Linn-Mar High School is preparing for its second annual Suicide Prevention Night on Friday, October 11, during the football game at Linn-Mar Stadium. This event aims to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health while raising awareness about available support and resources for students, friends, and families.
The MHM Leadership Team has been actively involved in planning this event. So far, the group has sold 590 shirts through an online store, generating $1,180 in donations for Project Safe CRCA. Additionally, Branded Apparel has contributed approximately 100 shirts, which are available for cash purchase at $15 each. They have also donated sweatshirts those are available and selling for $20. If all shirts are sold, the donation total will double, with the final amount revealed during a presentation of the check on Friday between the ninth-grade and varsity football games.
To further support Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, Trading Grounds will offer a signature drink called “Berry Mindful.” One dollar from each drink sold will be donated to Project Safe CRCA.
Project Safe CRCA aims to foster open conversations about depression and suicide awareness, striving to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues. The initiative acknowledges that depression affects individuals differently and emphasizes that while suicide cannot be entirely prevented, providing support may encourage individuals to seek help and extend their lives.
Participants are encouraged to wear their shirts on October 11 at school and during the football game to show their support for mental health awareness.
The MHM group extends gratitude to all students involved in raising funds for this important initiative and for their commitment to spreading awareness about mental health resources.
