Meet the New Linn-Mar Communications/Media Coordinator
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Fry as Communications/Media Coordinator for the Linn-Mar Community School District.
Since coming to Linn-Mar in 2003, Fry has been instrumental in creating communications opportunities for all students. He considers it “the best way to give back to a new generation of communicators”.
He took his knowledge as a Newsroom Assignment Manager and Newscast Producer at KGAN CBS-2/Fox 28, and announcer at radio stations, KQCR and KCDR, (now Z-102.9 and KMRY), to successfully establish LMTV (Linn-Mar Television). That project was seen as an effective way to communicate with high school students and families across the district. LMTV has earned numerous awards and multitudes of students have gone on to pursue careers in media, public relations, and other public speaking endeavors. In light of that success, in 2015, LMTV was expanded to include weekly broadcasts, which Fry also oversees, from the district’s two middle schools, Excelsior and Oak Ridge.
In addition, Fry serves as an Assistant Speech Coach at Linn-Mar High School. Under his guidance, students have earned All-State honors in radio and television broadcasting and short film production, as presented by the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA).
In 2015, he was named Communications Assistant for the Linn-Mar Community School District. His video production work has been recognized through Awards of Merit and Excellence by the Iowa School Public Relations Association.
In making the announcement, Chief Human Resources Officer/Executive Director of Public Relations, Karla Christian said “We are excited to promote Kevin to this position, his experience and enthusiasm is a great match for the District.”
Fry is a past recipient of an Iowa Motion Picture Award, a Friend of Education Award, as presented by the Linn-Mar Education Association, A Golden Apple Award winner presented by the Linn-Mar High School Lion Committee, and KHAK Teacher of the Week.
We want to congratulate Kevin Fry in his new role in our Communications Department as we continue our mission to Inspire Learning, Unlock Potential, and Empower Achievement here at Linn-Mar.
