Senior Mary Claire Henricksen receives the United Way of East Central Iowa’s Youth Volunteer Award

Senior Mary Claire Henricksen has won the 2017 United Way of East Central Iowa’s

Senior Mary Claire Henricksen displays her United Way of East Central Iowa Youth Volunteer Award.

Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award. Henricksen was one of three finalists in the youth category recognized in a ceremony held at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.

Henricksen played a vital role in starting the Writers Club at Mercy Medical Center in 2016.

Through her service as a volunteer, Henricksen held conversations with residents at Hallmar Care Facility to hear stories about their lives. The memories that were shared were turned into written stories and a binder was created to share with other residents, families, and guests. In winning the award, Henricksen received $500 to donate to a charity of her choice.
