Marc Mero Inspires Linn-Mar Students to Unlock Potential
“I believe.” Those are the two words Marc Mero asked Linn-Mar students to remember during his presentation Wednesday that covered topics ranging from bullying, substance abuse, suicide prevention and the choices we make in life.
“I want to entertain and inspire you to unlock the champion you are destined to be,” Mero told the high school audience. “I challenge you to write your dreams and goals into existence,” Mero reflected as he shared the dreams of a 10-year-old boy that would later become reality.
The Hope Walk Organization partnered with L-M to bring Mero and The Champion of Choices Production Team to LMHS, Excelsior and Oak Ridge Middle School.
The presentation was part of Mero’s Be Against Destructive Decisions (BADD) tour to schools nationwide. The theme of Mero’s life lessons and presentation was the difficult choices we are faced with in life. For Mero, he made many wrong choices — each came at a cost.
Mero’s story of achieving his lifelong dreams came at the expense of numerous personal hardships including substance abuse and the tragic loss of several family members and more than 30 close friends (largely due to lifestyle choices and negative behavior).
In 2003, Mero made a choice and changed his life. He would later start the Champion of Choices program and has since spoken to more than a million people as part of his program.
