LMHS Students Plan Respect Week
Respect Week is March 1st through the 5th at Linn Mar High School
It highlights the joys of ALL ABILITIES and allows us to share the importance of INCLUSION.
This will be the third year that Special Olympics Iowa has celebrated #RespectWeek. Students and school staff statewide have continually expressed an overwhelmingly positive response each year!
Linn Mar High School will be participating in virtual opportunities, decorating the school, students making commercials for LMTV, and different activities to promote inclusion awareness around the school.
Some high school students will be virtually joining special guest speaker Loretta Claiborne, Chief Inspiration Officer of Special Olympics North America to engage students in conversations about the importance of inclusion.
Loretta Claiborne is an American global speaker and multi-sport athlete who competes in the Special Olympics.
Claiborne has been honored with the 1996 Arthur Ashe ESPY Courage Award presented to her by Denzel Washington. She was the first Special Olympics athlete elected to the Special Olympics International Board of Directors.
She has completed over 25 marathons and has placed in the top 100 women finishers of the Boston Marathon twice. In 2000, Claiborne’s life was the subject of “The Loretta Claiborne Story”, a television film.
