LMHS Names New Girls Swim Coach
Linn-Mar is very excited to introduce Charlie Hugo as the new women’s swim coach, pending board approval.
Coach Hugo will be replacing Bobby Kelley, who was the head coach the past 2 seasons for the Lions. Coach Hugo is no stranger to the sport of swimming. His father, Steve Hugo, is the men’s and women’s swim coach at Fort Dodge, and his brother, Zane, is the Aquatics Director at the University of Wisconsin. Coach Hugo swam on the intramural team at UNI, and has worked with Mason City and Cedar Falls as an assistant coach and lessons instructor.
He is currently the Physical Education teacher at Echo Hill Elementary School in the Linn-Mar District. Coach Hugo served as an assistant coach at Linn-Mar during the 2020-21 season.
“We are very excited to have Charlie here at Linn-Mar,” says Athletic Director David Brown. “Charlie possesses all the qualities we look for in a coach at Linn-Mar. He knows the sport, is a tremendous role model, and knows how to relate to kids. He will be a tremendous mentor and is extremely passionate about the sport.”
Incoming coach Charlie Hugo added “I am excited about the opportunities ahead for our girls swim program! Working with the girls this past year as an assistant was a great opportunity to get to know the team. It was also great to work alongside Coach Kelley and Coach Kramer (diving coach) and I appreciate all the time and energy they put into my growth as a coach.”
