LMHS Commencement Open to All Guests
Commencement for the LMHS Class of 2021 will be held Sunday, May 30, at 1:00 p.m. in the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in downtown Cedar Rapids.
For those who are not able to attend in person, KCRG TV-9.2 will be airing the Commencement ceremony live.
We know that any decision on seating for parents and families will create dilemmas for different individuals. Our challenge is to provide an environment in which we can maintain enough social distancing to allow families to attend an indoor event in which mask-wearing is optional while also working to allow enough seating so that everyone who would like to attend may do so. I am sorry for any issues our decision on seating may create for our Linn-Mar families.
The venue will now allow up to 5,843 to attend the ceremony.
We are choosing not to issue tickets nor limit seating at the LMHS Commencement.
The primary reasons for this decision:
First, we want all parents and family to be able to attend.
Second, this will be either our 2nd or 3rd largest graduating class at LMHS and we have never had more than 5,000 patrons at any graduation ceremony in the past. The highest number has been just over 4,000.
Third, unlike previous ceremonies, seating will be allowed around the entire upper decks of the arena. This is being done to help allow for distancing to take place as much as possible.
Fourth, more adults have now been vaccinated in Linn County and mask-wearing at the ceremony will still be encouraged for everyone.
For graduates, our objective for the ceremony, as it has always been and will continue to be, is to ensure a first-class ceremony allowing for each graduating senior to have their ‘moment’ in which they get to hear their name read, they get to walk the stage, and they get to receive their diploma.
Even with over 500 graduates, we genuinely look forward to each ‘moment’ for our seniors and their families.
