Linn-Mar to Host 82 Schools at State Speech Competition on Saturday

Linn-Mar is proud to welcome Albia, Alburnett, Anamosa, Belle Plaine, Bellevue Community, Bellevue Marquette, Benton Community, BGM, Burlington Notre Dame, Baxter, Calamus-Wheatland, Camanche, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Cedar Valley Christian, Center Point-Urbana, Centerville, Central City, Central Dewitt, Chariton, Clear Creek Amana, Colfax-Mingo, Danville, Davis County, East Marshall,  Easton Valley, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, English Valleys, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Gmg, Grinnell, Highland, Iowa City City High, Iowa City Regina, Iowa Valley, Keokuk, Keota, Knoxville, Lisbon, Lone Tree, Lynnville-Sully, Maharishi Upper, Maquoketa, Marion, Marshalltown, Mediapolis, Meskwaki Settlement, Mid-Prairie, Midland, Montezuma, Monticello, Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon, New London, Newton, North Cedar, North Linn, North Scott, Northeast Community, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Pcm, Pekin Community, Pella Christian, Pella Community, Pleasant Valley, Pleasantville, Prince of Peace Prep, Sigourney, South Tama, Springville, Tipton, Tri-County, Vinton-Shellsburg, Wapello, Washington, West Burlington Arnold, West Liberty and Williamsburg!

Students and their coaches from these 82 schools will join Linn-Mar High School in competition this Saturday. They will be taking part in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Large Group Contest for the Southeast District of Iowa.      

The students will be evaluated by a trio of judges in the areas of Musical Theatre, Ensemble Acting, One Act Play, Group Improvisation, Television News, Short Film Production, Solo and Group Mime, Choral Reading, Reader’s Theatre and Radio News Broadcasting.

Guests are invited to watch the performances, but no recording is allowed.

It starts Saturday at 8:00 AM and continues until approximately 5:30 PM.

The public entrances for the event are the Athletic Entrance-Door 10, on the south side of the high school and the Pride Rock Entrance-Door 3, on the north side of the high school.

A suggested $3.00 donation will be accepted at the door.      

The finest performers in each category will be nominated to compete at the All-State Festival on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames on Saturday, February 17th.
