Linn-Mar Cheer Gives Back to the Community
Tuesday, November 29th is Giving Tuesday, a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season.
For many, the giving spirit extends well beyond Giving Tuesday. Over Thanksgiving break, the 30 cheerleaders of Linn-Mar Basketball Cheer made 25 blankets and 15 sock monkeys to donate to pediatric patients at the UIHC Children’s Hospital. The team anticipates presenting the blankets and sock monkeys to the UIHC volunteers by the end of the week so they can be distributed before the holidays.
According to Athletic Director Dave Brown, altruism is one of the Athletic Department’s five culture pieces. “Linn-Mar Basketball Cheer has shown a great example of this by doing what they can to give back to the community,” he said.
Linn-Mar Varsity Cheer will also give back to the community by hosting a free gift-wrapping event during the basketball double-header on December 9th. Any spectator can bring their unwrapped holiday presents to have wrapped by the cheerleaders by the end of the game. Freewill donations will be accepted and 100 percent of the donations will be given to the local Gems of Hope Charity group who provides gifts to local cancer patients.
Thank you for showing the importance of giving back L-M Cheer!
