Kelley to Coach Linn-Mar Girls Varsity Swimming
Bobby Kelley has been named head varsity girls swimming coach at Linn-Mar High School. Kelley will assume responsibility for the coaching position starting the 2018 season.
“I’m very excited to be named head coach of Linn-Mar Girls Swimming,” Kelley said. “I’ve coached at the summer league, club, and collegiate levels and look forward to the opportunity and challenges of coaching at the high school level,” he said.
Kelley said he’s learned a great deal from the sport over the years. “Everybody swims, everybody wins,” he says. Each student who participates in the sport can challenge themselves individually while setting goals, learning self-discipline and internal motivational skills all while being challenged to grow and improve. “At the end of the season, everyone walks away a winner,” he added.
Kelley was named Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004 for coaching the Coe College women’s teams to two conference titles. Kelley was also named the Cedar Rapids Aquatic Association’s Coach of the Year in 2004.
Kelley has served as the manager of Linn-Mar’s Aquatic Center since 2013. At Linn-Mar, he has developed learn-to-swim programs that have become a part of the district’s curriculum for 2nd through 4th graders. Kelley also oversees elementary and high school adaptive students who utilize the pool in addition to high school physical education classes.
According to Athletic Director Dave Brown,” Bobby brings years of swimming experience and expertise to our head girls coaching position.” He has worked with students from all grade levels, including college throughout his career. “Bobby will be a great addition to our swimming program here at Linn-Mar.”
Kelley’s appointment as the new girls swimming coach is pending approval by the Linn-Mar Board of Education.
