Iowa Youth Straw Poll
5th graders at Boulder Peak Intermediate were among thousands of students from over 160 schools in our state participating in an important activity, learning to vote.
The students cast ballots for their preferred candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and Iowa Governor in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll.
The activity is coordinated by the Iowa Secretary of State’s office. The candidates were asked to provide a short video with a personalized message especially geared toward Iowa’s K-12 graders.
The students watched the videos, took notes on what they heard from the candidates, and then cast their votes. They were even given an “I voted” sticker to wear.
If you would like to learn more about the candidates, the videos that were shared with the students are available on the Secretary of State’s Elections 101 website.
Election day for the Iowa Youth Straw Poll was Tuesday, April 12th. Election results can be found here.
