Iowa Secretary of State visits Boulder Peak
5th graders studying Iowa government had a special guest stop by to share his firsthand knowledge on the subject. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate showed the students an exact replica of the state constitution.
He answered their questions about how a bill becomes a law and he encouraged students to take an interest in student council when they get older.
Mr. Pate did challenge the student’s knowledge of their state.
He asked them to name the state bird, state rock, state flower, and the city where Iowa’s first state capitol was established. The students did well on the pop quiz.
If you had challenges with the quiz, the answers are listed below.
State Bird: Goldfinch
State Rock: Geode
State Flower: Wild rose
The state’s first Capitol was Burlington. Iowa City was second. Des Moines is the present state Capitol.
