High School Students Participate in National School Walkout
Today, Linn-Mar High School students participated in the National School Walkout which coincides with the 19th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting.
At 10:00 am, students marched to City Square Park in Marion to conduct a brief rally. Students stated the purpose of the walkout is to increase awareness on school safety, gun violence, and civic responsibilities.
The school district prefers that our students are in class learning. However, we recognize the importance of this action and applaud their efforts to make their voices heard.
The district does not encourage or prevent student participation and respects the rights of those who chose to participate and those who chose not to. Participation in the walkout is considered an unexcused absence.
Our highest priority will always be the safety and well-being of our students. The district worked directly with the Marion Police Department prior to the event to ensure the safety of all students.
