Flashback: 50 Years Ago This Summer
In June 1968, the Linn-Mar Community School District announced the purchase of six acres of land at a cost of $7,413.
The land, in northeast Cedar Rapids, would become the site of the district’s fourth elementary school. (now there are seven)
In August 1968, The Linn-Mar School Board voted to name the new building Bowman Woods Elementary, to coincide with the new neighborhood under development around the property.
The school opened to students on August 25, 1969, for the start of the 1969-70 school year.
