Fifteen Linn-Mar Seniors Participate in Future Educator Signing Day

Fifteen Linn-Mar High School seniors have informally committed to pursuing a career in education this month by signing Future Educator Letters of Intent. The document signed by the attendees assures that the students will receive an interview with the Linn-Mar Community School District when they are ready to join the workforce.

At the event, the students shared that their personal pathways after high school are very different: some are headed to community college, others are leaving Iowa for a four year degree, and many are headed to Iowa four year universities. What connects these students is that they believe their paths will lead them to a future career in education.

Now in its third year, the signing was first proposed by high school teacher Laura Vaske who teaches much of the education-career track to Linn-Mar High School students interested in pursuing a career in education.  “This is the largest group of students we’ve had participate in this event,” she shared. “It’s exciting to see this grow into an event of its own.”

This new tradition is one way to help support students who are interested in pursuing education as a career, and to encourage familiar faces to return to the Linn-Mar family of educators after they complete their college education. “We are so excited at the opportunity to see all of you back here as a paraprofessional, in a support role, or as a an educator,” commented Associate Superintendent Nathan Wear.

“We will keep in touch with all of these students,” shared Executive Director of Human Resources Karla Christian, “and we guarantee them they’ll have an interview for an opening if they apply with the district after they graduate.”

The district is proud of the dozens of former students who are now members of our current team of educational professionals, and hopes that some of these students will be among our future workforce. They, and all our employees, continue to Inspire Learning, Unlock Potential and Empower Achievement for the next generation here at Linn-Mar.
