FFA Golden Owl District Winner
A Linn-Mar graduate who is now the Executive Director of the Iowa FFA Foundation was joined by representatives from the Iowa Department of Education and the National FFA Organization as they presented Linn-Mar AgriScience teacher Barb Lemmer with a very special honor.
Ms. Lemmer (third from the left in the photo) is one of seven instructors from across the state recognized as a 2024 Iowa Golden Owl Award District Winner. The award is presented annually to Agri-Science/FFA teachers for their work with FFA. This year there were 468 nominations for 100 different Iowa ag teachers.
In presenting the award, FFA officials read some of the nominations from Lemmer’s students. “Ms. Lemmer gave me confidence as a person. She taught me how strong and broad agriculture is.” Another student shared “Ms. Lemmer really cares about her students. She takes the time to explain when a student doesn’t understand something and takes extra action. After I met her, right away I could tell that she was very passionate about her job and FFA.”
After the award was presented, the national and state dignitaries toured the FFA classroom, research area, and adjoining Aquaculture Lab calling it one of the finest facilities in the state, designed to train the employees that will meet the needs of the state’s agribusiness companies well into the future.
The seven district winners are finalists for the Iowa Golden Owl Award that will be presented at the State FFA convention later this year.
Good luck and congratulations Ms. Lemmer!
