Driscoll Honored, Inducted to LMHS Hall of Fame
The late Ryan Driscoll was honored in a ceremony prior to Friday’s varsity football game at Linn-Mar Stadium and inducted to the Linn-Mar Hall of Fame.
Driscoll’s wife Kerry, and his two daughters Mia and Tessa, were joined by family and friends on the field as his achievements at Linn-Mar were celebrated.
As a Lion, Driscoll was a three-sport standout who won the 1992 Gazette Athlete of the Year award.
During his two-year varsity football career, Driscoll threw for 3,654 yards and 29 touchdowns leading the Lions to a 20-3 record and a Class 4A state championship in his junior season (1990). He was also listed as one of the top five drop back passers in the country by The Sporting News, was a high school all-American by Street & Smith’s, and was named Gatorade’s Iowa Player of the Year.
In baseball, Driscoll batted .547 as a senior, was named the MVC Player of the Year, and was a first-team all-state selection.
The Ryan Driscoll Memorial Scholarship was created by the Linn-Mar Foundation to honor Driscoll. The first scholarship award in his honor will be presented in May 2020.
Driscoll passed away in December at the age of 44.
The 1988, 1989, and 1990 football teams were also honored at the game.
