Cy-Hawk Game Participants Provide Inspiration for Students
Students at Hazel Point Intermediate had a special incentive to focus on their school work– even during Cy-Hawk week. It began when Riley Moss, a defensive cornerback for the Iowa Hawkeyes, recorded a short video for the Hazel Point students.
Not to be outdone, Grace Nicholson, a Linn-Mar alum and member of the Iowa State dance team, encouraged members of her team to record an inspiring message for the students as well.
Then Ethan Hurkett, a Hawkeye defensive lineman, persuaded members of the defensive line to record a video. Ethan’s mom happens to be a 6th-grade teacher at Hazel Point.
“The theme of the three videos focused on putting your energy on the positive. To work hard, be a good student, sport, and friend. It really was a great message the kids can use day-to-day.” said Hazel Point principal Chad Buchholz.
The videos coincided with a special spirit day. Students and staff were decked out in their favorite team gear to prepare for the big game.
No matter the outcome on the field, the winners were the students with special motivation to learn and grow!
