Congrats to Colton Center Jazz

It’s been a remarkable year for the Colton Center Jazz Ensemble. Their performance has impressed judges at the district and state levels all season long. They brought home second place in class 4A at the Iowa Jazz Championships at Iowa State University. Tejas Gururaja was named Outstanding Performer in class 4A.

Just getting to the finals is not an easy task. Only the top fifteen class 4A jazz bands are selected from the six district festivals. Colton Center Jazz punched its ticket to the State Championships by coming in first place at the Northeast Iowa Band Association (NEIBA) Jazz Festival in Waterloo earlier this year.  The top two schools in district competition automatically advance to state. At the district contest, Tejas Gururaja earned an Honorable mention solo award for violin.
