A Letter from the Superintendent
Linn-Mar Community,
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the arrest of former Linn-Mar employee
Kameron Beets. Mr. Beets used to be a student supervisor at Linn-Mar High School, and he
also served as an assistant track coach. Mr. Beets resigned his student supervisor position in
April of 2021; and he completed his coaching responsibilities on May 22. He is not currently
employed by the Linn-Mar District in any capacity. Also, coaching contracts are not
automatically renewed each year and a determination on Mr. Beets’ coaching contract for the
spring of 2022 had not been made at the time of this incident; but he still had access to the
high school to support the track athletes during the offseason. It is our understanding that Mr.
Beets operates the BEAST Academy, a high school sports photography company, which is
not affiliated with the Linn-Mar District in any manner.
Mr. Beets was initially hired by Linn-Mar on September 17, 2018. All hiring procedures were
followed including reference checks and background checks. There were no concerns
identified in the hiring process. Mr. Beets also went through a second background check
through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners when he completed his coaching
authorization that was granted on December 18, 2020. During Mr. Beets’ employment, no
concerns or complaints were filed by any student or parent in regard to his job performance or
behavior.
On September 27th the Marion Police Department contacted Linn-Mar High School
administration about a complaint they had received regarding Mr. Beets. We provided them
with all the information they requested, and we have continued to fully cooperate during the
investigation and will do so until the investigation is complete.
Due to the ongoing investigation, we did not learn the details of the complaint until Tuesday,
October 26th when the details were made public. We were shocked and disturbed by the
charges against Mr. Beets. We are doing everything we can to support any students that have
been violated in any manner. We strongly encourage students and/or families to contact the
Marion Police Department if they feel they were victimized in any way by Mr. Beets. The
Marion Police Department can be contacted at 319-377-1511.
As we strive to make the Linn-Mar District as safe a learning environment as possible for all
students, we will be reviewing our practices and procedures regarding access to Linn-Mar
facilities by our staff. The new procedures will be shared with the community upon completion.
There is nothing more important than providing a safe school environment for our students
and we are committed to ensuring this happens at all times.
Shannon Bisgard
Linn-Mar Superintendent
