Kim Sleezer
Kim Sleezer is an 8th Grade Reading Teacher and High School Prep Teacher at Excelsior Middle School.
She has three children in the Linn-Mar District with one in elementary, one in middle school, and one in high school.
Before her children were born, Mrs. Sleezer taught high school English and speech for eight years. Until her children were old enough to attend school, she was employed by Pearson and worked part-time from home scoring the essay portion of the SAT college entrance exam.
“I had never intended to step out of the classroom when my first child was born but on 9/11, I was a teacher at Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, only miles from the Pentagon. Many of my students’ parents and many of my colleagues’ spouses were in the Pentagon that day. On 9/11, the plethora of emotions and challenges I faced as a teacher and soon-to-be mother caused me to think deeply about my life goals and convictions. The events of that day, and the weeks and months to follow, profoundly changed me as a person, a mother, and a teacher. Living in the Washington, D.C., metro area the fear of another attack and our “new normal” of being prepared for anything made me realize how important it was for me to be a stay-at-home mom for my newborn son,” Mrs. Sleezer said.
Kim also said she has have never regretted her decision to step out of the classroom until her children were all in school and was filled with great joy and expectation as she entered the classroom for her “second career” as a teacher in 2012. Mrs. Sleezer stated, “I am honored and thankful to be a member of the Linn-Mar teaching community.”
