Welcome to Early Childhood!
I am Kristi Hicks and I am excited to be the Director of Early Childhood for the Linn-Mar School District. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University in Northern Iowa in 1997 with a degree in special education. My masters’ degrees are in Special Education (2004) and Educational Leadership (2008), also from the University of Northern Iowa.
I have taught elementary special education for five years, before joining Linn-Mar in 2004 where I taught special education at Linn-Mar High School for three years. I was a SAM at Linn Grove Elementary the very first year it opened. From there, I joined Excelsior Middle School as an Associate Principal for five years.
I have the luxury of working with some of the finest staff, students and families in the Linn-Mar District. I am extremely proud to have my children receive their education from Linn-Mar, as well.

Learning Resource Center
The Linn-Mar Community School District offers programs for three, four and five year old children. Little Lions is an inclusive preschool, meaning typically developing children and children with special needs are in a classroom together. The number of sections, the location sites, and daily schedules for these programs will be determined by the district after schools have collected the data needed for making these decisions.
Three Year Olds
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a year of half-day, four day a week, school-based experience with a focus on social, emotional, behavioral growth while still supporting academics. This tuition-based program utilizes Creative Curriculum, which aligns with the Iowa Early Learning Standards. Three and four year olds will learn together in the same classroom.
Four Year Olds
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a year of half-day, four day a week, school-based experience with a focus on social, emotional, behavioral growth while still supporting academics. This program utilizes Creative Curriculum, which aligns with the Iowa Early Learning Standards. Four year old children will be served in a blended classroom with either three year olds or five year olds.
